March 27, 2009 - Australia and New Zealand Probably the World Leaders in Online Gambling
The Sunday Telegraph has uncovered a study that was done by two University of Lethbridge professors, namely Robert Williams and Robert Wood.
These two professors claim that of the 20,000 people from 105 countries surveyed by them it would appear that Australian and New Zealand gamblers bet more on average online, per month, than gamblers in any other country.
This disclosure has come as a big surprise as most people have been under the impression that most of the online gambling takes place in the United States.
Australian and New Zealand online gamblers have admitted to betting four hundred and thirty five dollars on average, per month, which far exceeds the amount spent on online gambling by players in other countries.
Professor Robert Wood stated that Australian gamblers reported spending a much higher average monthly amount than the overall average that they observed among their sample. "It would appear that Australian Internet gamblers spend much more on gambling compared with Internet gamblers from most other countries" he added.
One problem that has led to the huge amount spent by online gamblers in Australia appears to be the use of credit cards to gamble online and it would probably be a good thing if Internet gambling had far stricter regulations in Australia than what there is at present.
With a ten percent revenue increase from online betting over the past year, Centrebet is the hub of the online gaming industry at the moment. Online gamblers should not be capable of gambling on credit and the Federal Government should do all it can to put a stop to this.
