Online Bingo Television Ad Banned

April 1, 2009 - Online Bingo Television Ad Banned

JDA Agency, an experienced advertising agency was recently responsible for advertising a brave TV advertising campaign for Tombola Bingo, one of the most popular gaming sites in the UK.

It was advertised, by voice, that "each day thousands of people join in the fun at Tombola.co.uk where they can choose from more than thirty five chat rooms." They are told to "join the ride, play your favourite bingo games and also make new friends". They are furthermore told that should they join now it would entitle them to have more chances to WIN with up to twenty five pounds Money Match.

The television ad, which is portrayed in bright colours, displays fair ground rides which include exciting rides on the roller coaster and a Ferris wheel and thus compares this excitement to playing on the Tombola site.

However, the Advertising Standards Authority has found it necessary to ban the TV commercial after receiving a complaint by a member of the public who was adamant that the appeal of the advert would encourage minors to join the site. Tombola Bingo, however, did not agree with the complaint and stated that images and graphics which were used in the advert were simply used as a metaphor for online bingo.

Tombola Bingo was not the only online site to have a TV advertisement banned this year. Earlier this year Ladbrokes Online Casino also had an advertisement banned when it was claimed by a member of the public to portray casino gaming as being brave and risky.
