April 28, 2009 - Online Gambling gets a New Chance in the U.S.
Big companies who had previously dominated the online gambling business in the U.S. were reluctantly forced to close down after the US Congress cracked down on Internet betting in 2006.
However, like many European countries where online gambling has been outlawed, the U.S. is under pressure to legalize and tax online gambling.
Countries where online gambling is outlawed realize that despite the ban, there is still a lot of gambling going on and as a result their governments are receiving no revenue
Hopefully a big change will soon take place in the United States where Pro-gambling Congressman Barney Frank, Democrat of Massachusetts is endeavoring to introduce legislation aimed at overturning the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
This is not the first time that Barney Frank has tried to overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. He was unsuccessful in his attempt in 2007 but it is felt that he may have more success this time around.
PricewaterhouseCoopers have announced that, according to their study, an amount of more than fifty billion dollars could be raised by the U.S. government over a period of ten years from taxes on legalized online gambling.
Some analysts feel that Barney Frank may not succeed in overturning the UIGEA. There are many groups opposing the repeal and the Christian Coalition of America and the National Football League have vowed that they will fight any effort that he may try and make to end the ban including a massive campaign of letter writing and lobbying in order to prevent online gambling being legalized.
