March 5, 2009 - UIGEA Bill Threatened, Online Gaming Community Rejoices
It should come as no surprise to anyone that the United States is in serious financial crisis. President Obama has unveiled his plans to help revive the economy, and everyone is quite excited about the details of the stimulus package. One man is thinking of another way to boost the economy, and that's with online gambling.
Representative Barney Frank is in the process of introducing a Bill that has the potential to restructure the way that the US government handles online gambling. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA, is preventing any progress that could be made towards regulation.
Many people are in favor of this new Bill and believe that it could help boost the economy. Representitive Barney Frank recently said that the time frame for releasing the Bill would be "in the next month", however, this time period has already came and went. Now those in hopes of the UIGEA Act being eliminated are patiently awaiting another announcement from the representitive. The online gaming community are paying close attention in the next few weeks for the announcement in hopes that a lot will change for this industry.
At this time, it isn't clearly known whether or not Representitive Barney Frank has recieved enough support to completely overturn the UIGEA Bill. If there is any better time to attempt such a feat it would be now. If this Bill does become a reality, there will be many happy online gambling sites and players.
